Knit Basics: Continental Style Knitting with Terri Sipes


Abstract

Knit Basics: Continental Style Knitting is a 4 session course, 2.5 hours once a week, for 4 weeks.  The course is not project driven; rather it is learning technique by making swatches of the skills covered in each topic. Topics covered include Long Tail Cast On, Knit, Purl, Increases, Decreases, Bind Off, Blocking, Yarn Sizes, and Basic Yarn Properties. No experience with knitting is necessary. This course is also appropriate for people who currently knit using the English/Throwing technique, who want to learn to knit Continental Style. Class size is limited to 8-10 participants in order to provide quality individual instruction.

Materials

Standardized materials for the course are included in the price to faciltate your learning experience.

Supplies provided:  

  • 100 grams of worsted weight wool yarn in a solid, light color;
  • Size 8 US / 5 mm wood knitting needles;
  • Written instructions in paper form and PDF form with embedded YouTube links for home support are provided by the Instructor.
You are required to bring the following supplies needed:  
  • Paper, pencil, post-it notes.

    Material kits are made ready for you to pick up prior to the class. Simply pick up your kit from our valet table and claim a spot.

    This course meets for 4 sessions from 5:30pm-8:00pm on the following Tuesday nights:

    Where

    Classes are held here in our studio at Icon Fiber Arts. We ask that participants park in the back of the building and use the rear entrance. Our learning area is located immediately inside the back door. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow yourself time to get situated. Class starts promptly at 5:30. Please notify us prior to the class if you need any accommodations. 

    About the Instructor 

    Terri Sipes, owner of Yarn Travels LLC, has been knitting, crocheting and embroidering since she was 12 years old.  She has been teaching needle crafts locally for 20+ years at the Stitching Bee, Monterey Yarn, Spin of Door County and in her own studio Yarn Travels.  Terri's passion for knitting is evident when she shares that knowledge with others, using several methods to accommodate different learning styles, with a sense of humor in a positive, encouraging and supportive manner.  Terri was the founding President of the Bay Lakes Knitting Guild whose mission is to enrich the knitting community with fellowship and education and to be of service to northeast Wisconsin.

    Cancellation & Attendance

    A refund will be provided to attendees who cancel 24 hours in advance of the first session on Jan. 9, 2018. There is no refund or partial refund for the class for any missed sessions. In the unlikely event of inclement weather that would prevent the class from meeting, the class will be extended and rescheduled as determined by the Instructor.
