Trellis Lace Cowl with Josh Steger - All Fiber Arts Retreat 2023
Regular price $ 39.00 Save $ -39.00Abstract
Often, the repeat of a lace motif doesn't line up "seamlessly" when knit in the round. This is the exact problem I faced when I thought I was going to design and knit a simple cowl for Noro's new bulky yarn: Rikka. (We think this design looks fabulous using a few of our own hand dyed yarns as well.) Everything seemed to go well with knitting our chosen trellis lace pattern for the first repeat. Disaster struck when trying to adapt the second repeat of the pattern: NOTHING lined up! Of the many lessons learned designing this lace project, the biggest is that sometimes you need to rob Peter to pay Paul! Join me for a project based class where we explore the exciting world of lace, with a dash of cable work, and the skills you need to make it all easy as pie! Upon completion of the class, most learners will leave with at least one full repeat completed of the pattern and have the skills to finish the project. Seamlessly!
Techniques Covered: Increasing stitches: yo twice, decreasing stitches: k2tog & ssk, purl through the back loop, 1/1 cable, slipping stitches, reading a chart, and marker placement.
Prerequisites: Basic experience with knitting is a necessary prerequisite for this course. Participants should be able to demonstrate the following techniques: knit, purl, and worki in the round.
Pre-work: The pattern will be sent to each participant upon completion of registration for this course. Cast on the project and work through the end of Round 4. Stop.

About the Instructor
Josh Steger began his journey as a fiber artist at a young age when he learned to knit, crochet, and sew. Josh always felt inspired by yarn and what you can make with it. It was a natural progression when he started to dye wool, spin it into yarn, and ultimately, create surface designs. In 2013, Josh formally launched his fiber arts studio, Icon Fiber Arts, as a part buds ‘n bloom. Josh's experience as an instructor is well rounded. He formerly worked for United Healthcare in Green Bay as a Trainer and Learning Specialist. He has taught classes for Traveling Treadlers Fiber Arts Guild and the Bay Lakes Knitting Guild. He also provides one on one instruction for knitting, crochet, weaving, felting, hand spinning, and dyeing.
