Fiber Arts
Our Approach To Learning
Our founder, Josh Steger, is committed to offering in person learning for all of the fiber arts mediums that we support in the studio. Transferring the knowledge that we have with others is our first mission. Helping you develop the skills you need to develop your art is our ultimate goal. We believe this is best achieved by offering instructor led group class and individual lessons for beginners in person. This page lists some of our current learning options that are available for registration. Pick a class or lesson below to explore more information about the topic and how registration works. We look forward to seeing you in class!
Knit & Crochet
Have you ever said: "I wish I could knit" or "I would love to crochet!" We can help with that! Our in person individual lessons give you the personal attention you need, when you need it.
Hand Spinning
Making your own yarn is, for some of us, a way of life. The thoughtful and repetitious motions transport you to a different state of mind. Learn the fundamentals of preparing fiber, spinning, plying, and finishing techniques. Expand your current spinning knowledge by trying new structures, colors, and textures.
Weaving
Explore weaving with us in the studio. We offer a broad range of instruction in several different genres. Wherever you want to start we have the working knowledge and the equipment to get you started on tapestry weaving, inkle weaving, rigid heddle weaving, multi shaft weaving on a floor or tabletop loom, and many different options for small looms!
Craving Something New?
Small Group Class Offerings
Meet up with old friends and make some new ones too when you enroll in our public classes here in the studio. The topics are always changing!

About the Instructor
Maud LaMarche - I am a huge fan of all things string. I spin, dye, knit, crochet, tat, embroider, and weave. I love ancient and antique fiber tools and collect them just to figure out how they work. Wool is almost exclusively my medium and I love to gather the history and lore of my skills. A storyteller by nature, nothing is more fun than mixing the art, history, passion and skills into the teaching of these ancient techniques. I have been teaching knitting and spinning in Central Wisconsin for almost 20 years. Besides playing with wool most of my days, I have three adult daughters and three granddaughters. I love flat-track roller derby, the 15,086 inland lakes of Wisconsin, and fine coffee made on a campfire.

Learn to Knit Continental Style is a multi-session individual lesson series designed to break down the basic skills needed to knit a variety of projects. The core skills in this series are divided into 4 lessons that discuss getting started, the knit stitch, purl stitches, increasing, decreasing, working in the round, and finishing. The lessons may be scheduled as you advance at your own pace. No experience with knitting is necessary.
This lesson series is designed for the absolute beginner, however the instructor may customize the content and pace of the material for those students looking to enroll in this series as a refresher course. This course is also appropriate for people who currently knit using the English/Throwing technique, who want to learn to knit Continental Style. Beginners must be able to demonstrate mastery of each skill in order for the first 4 lessons. Supplemental topics that build on these fundamental skills may be selected as desired upon successful completion of Lessons 1-4.
The 2nd lesson in our Learn to Knit Continental series will start with a review of skills learned in Lesson 1 and introduces following patterns and the purl stitch. Purling is the skill needed to create the reverse of the knit stitch. The alternating combinations of knitting and purling are endless.
