The Louët S17 is an affordable Irish tension wheel designed with new spinners in mind, and it's an easy way for experienced spinners to explore Irish tension too. Its single-belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake gives a strong, steady take-up that's forgiving while you learn and great for thicker yarns. This is the double treadle version, for an even, comfortable rhythm using both feet.

The S17 comes as a kit for you to assemble. The birch is sanded with rounded edges, and a small piece of sandpaper is included to smooth any rough spots. The wood is unfinished, so plan to oil, wax, lacquer or stain it before use. The S17 shares its hardware with Louët's S10 Concept, so S10 Irish tension flyers and bobbins fit it. As your spinning grows, you can add the High Speed Set for fine yarns or the Bulky flyer and bobbins for art yarns and thick singles.
