Warping Pegs are the simplest and most portable warp-measuring tools. They clamp to a table or counter, with the single peg placed at one end of the warp length and the pair of pegs placed at the other end, spread as far apart as the warp is long. As of February 2018, the set includes two clamps.

Weighted tapestry beater made of hard maple with a smooth Danish oil finish. The wooden teeth are set at five per inch. The weighted beater has about five ounces of lead weight inserted into the end for tighter weaving.

WOLF PUP LT

Here is a little loom you can easily take anywhere with you. The 18″ weaving width is ideal for workshops and for all those other narrow projects.

We’ve used the same sturdy X-frame and barrel-nut construction for our Wolf Pup series looms as we use for our other Wolf looms. We also use many of the same components: steel hub friction brake, brake release foot pedal, aluminum harness channels, and an attached beater pin. The loom comes with stainless steel heddle bars and a stainless steel reed (choice of 6, 8, 10, 12 or 15 dent), and 300 inserted eye heddles. The simple and elegant direct tie-up system we use was first designed by F.C. Wood of Waterford, New York, who started building the Dorset Loom in 1956.

The Wolf Pup LT features jacks and lamms, like its bigger siblings the Baby Wolf and Mighty Wolf, that allow any harness to be tied to any of its 6 treadles, in whatever combination your weave structure requires.

Wolf Pup LT comes with the Treadle Tracker, a mini clipboard for holding your threading and treadling diagrams.

Taller weavers might consider ordering the Wolf Pup LT with height extender—it makes the loom 2″ taller, allowing more leg room.

THE WOLF PUP 8.10

The Wolf Pup 8.10 expands the options of our Wolf Pup line, offering 8-shaft, 10-treadle weaving with an 18″ weaving width. Like our other Wolf looms, the Wolf Pup 8.10 has an X-frame design, providing a sturdy base while allowing the loom to be easily folded up to a depth of 19”. Folding the loom is a cinch, with or without a warp on it. For stability and sturdiness, we employ barrel nut construction and traditional woodworking joinery. The Wolf Pup 8.10 is super compact with a footprint of just 28″ wide x 35-1/2″ deep. It’s a powerful performer with big loom features in a pint-sized loom.

The Wolf Pup 8.10 is perfect for schools and teaching studios where floor space is always a premium. You don’t need to sacrifice big loom features for narrow weaving projects or small spaces.

For rigid heddle weavers keen on pattern weaving, the Wolf Pup 8.10 will take you to the next level in a friendly, feature-full loom.

A companion to our other Wolf Pup Looms, the Wolf Pup 8.10 has outrigger front legs to make extra space for 10 treadles. The brake release lever, located on the outside of the loom, is easy to operate.

This roving has a soft hand and loftiness to it. It is a favorite for spinning or felting. It is useful for blending with other colors or using alone for a soft light brown. 

Potential for creating designs in textiles can be seen even in the physical properties of cloth. The simple fact that cloth tightly compressed into wrinkles or folds resists the penetration of dye is an opportunity—an opportunity to let the pliancy of textiles speak in making designs and patterns.


People around the world have recognized this opportunity, producing resist designs in textiles by shaping and then securing cloth in various ways before dyeing. Yet in no other country has the creative potential of this basic principle been understood and applied as it has in Japan. Here, in fact, it has been expanded into a whole family of traditional resist techniques, involving first shaping the cloth by plucking, pinching, twisting, stitching, folding, pleating, and wrapping it, and then securing the shapes thus made by binding, looping, knotting, clamping, and the like. This entire family of techniques is called shibori.


Designs created with shibori processes all share a softness of outline and spontaneity of effect. Spontaneity is shibori’s special magic, made possible by exploiting the beauty of the fortuitous things that happen when dye enters shaped cloth.


Usually it is in response to the fact that a craft is being lost that the need for preserving and documenting it arises. The motivation behind this book is no exception, but the authors have gone far beyond simple documentation. Extensive research and experimentation have led to the revival here of shibori techniques that were once well known but have now been largely forgotten in Japan. In addition to more conventional techniques, the work of contemporary fiber artists in Japan and abroad in shibori textile art and wearable art is presented, to suggest the extent of the creative innovation possible.


The 104 color and 298 black-and-white plates include a photographic Gallery of Shibori Examples, based on Japan’s largest collection of traditional shibori fabrics.
