Intro to Mosaic Knitting Workshop with Shannon Dunbabin of Cascade Yarns - Saturday, October 3rd!

Abstract

Mosaic knitting is the easiest way to create bold, graphic colorwork. You work with only one color per row, and slipped stitches do all the magic. Join Shannon Dunbabin, co-owner and Creative Director of Cascade Yarns, for a relaxed introduction to the technique as part of Cascade Day at Icon Fiber Arts. You'll explore a variety of mosaic examples in class, and every participant receives a copy of the Mosaic Options Mix and Match pattern, so you can choose to make a scarf, a blanket, or a wrap. A few door prizes will be up for grabs too!

This workshop is appropriate for knitters who are comfortable with casting on, knitting, and purling.

A Celebration of Cascade Yarns

Because Shannon is joining us from Cascade Yarns, this workshop is a celebration of Cascade from start to finish. We ask that all workshop yarn be Cascade yarn, and we would love to help you find the perfect one.

For the workshop itself, you only need two skeins of Cascade yarn in contrasting colors of your choice to practice and play with. Mosaic knitting alternates two colors, so pick a pair with plenty of contrast, like a light and a dark. Once you've learned the technique and chosen your project, our team will help you pick out your colors for the full scarf, blanket, or wrap, either that day or on a later visit. Your practice skeins are available for purchase at Icon Fiber Arts before the event or on the day of the workshop.

Materials

Supplies provided:

• Mosaic Options Mix and Match pattern (scarf, blanket, or wrap)

Supplies you are required to bring:

• 2 skeins of Cascade yarn in contrasting colors of your choice for practice. We recommend Cascade Woolpaka, Cascade 220, or Cascade 220 Superwash Merino.
• Size 8 US (5.0 mm) knitting needles for Woolpaka or Cascade 220, or size 7 US (4.5 mm) knitting needles for 220 Superwash Merino, which is a little thinner
• Paper and pen or pencil for note taking

This workshop meets for 2 hours on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, from 11:00am to 1:00pm CST.

Where

This workshop is held in our studio at Icon Fiber Arts, 590 Redbird Circle, De Pere, WI 54115. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow yourself time to get situated. Class starts promptly at 11:00am. Please notify us prior to the workshop if you need any accommodations in our learning area.

About the Instructor

Shannon Dunbabin joined Cascade Yarns in 2003 and today serves as the company's co-owner and Creative Director. In her own words, she is the "head yarn wrangler and chaos creator." Shannon is a self-taught knitter and crocheter who loves all things yarn, and we are honored to welcome her to De Pere for Cascade Day.

Attendance & Cancellations

This workshop is a group style class with a minimum of 2 students to go forward and a maximum of 12 students. In the event that the workshop cannot meet minimum enrollment, it will be cancelled 24 hours in advance and a full refund will be provided.

Cancellations: A refund will be provided to attendees if notice is sent 72 hours in advance of the scheduled workshop. There is no refund or partial refund for missing the session. You may transfer your reservation to another person if your cancellation is within 72 hours before the start of class. Please contact us promptly for any changes required in a reservation.
